Food Of The dambrun Gods Summary

An interesting theory is put forth saying that psilocybin and other tryptamines help humankind evolve language. It goes through recorded stages from neanderthal to modern hominids, there is an undeniable „missing link“ that happens where humans brain triples in size within an implausible amount of time according to standard evolution. This book is a highly speculative, yet plausible, account of how human evolution may have been influenced by psychoactive mushrooms. McKenna’s claims that low dosages of psychedelics enhance visual acuity and therefore confer reproductive advantage to those populations utilizing them has some credibility as such seems to be the case. Indeed, I recently talked about this with my opthamologist. The drug does expand the pupils, allowing more sensory input.

  • When he first thought of the thing he saw, as it were, a vista of enormous possibilities – literally enormous possibilities; but upon this dazzling vista, after one stare of amazement, he resolutely shut his eyes, even as a conscientious ‘scientist’ should.
  • The word “drug” itself is a overly broad and imprecise category, but let’s look at the dominant social attitude towards “drugs” anyway.
  • Zeus had to take the matter in his own mighty hands and ordered Hades to release Persephone.
  • Among his major premises is the theory that the human brain, and higher human consciousness, evolved in large part from early hominids’ use of mind-expanding hallucinogens—primarily magic mushrooms.
  • Without these kinds of experiences, we become blind to the reality that we are in an interdependent relationship with the world.

These are the thoughts that say to us, why we are here? And when we sincerely want to know, the intelligent universe that surrounds us gives us the food we need to actualize it all and grow. These are the thoughts that also awaken and feed our DOW. Rupert Wong was destined to damnation until he cut a deal with the gods of the Chinese underworld to work some of his bad karma off. My Book Notes

When Michael Pollan set out to research how LSD and psilocybin are being used to provide relief to people suffering from difficult-to-treat conditions such as depression, addiction, and anxiety, he did not intend to write what is undoubtedly his most personal book. But upon discovering how these remarkable substances are improving the lives not only of the mentally ill but also of healthy people coming to grips with the challenges of everyday life, he decided to explore the landscape of the mind in the first person as well as the third. This new template is automatically activated when the inner and outer field frequencies match and are strong enough to trigger it.

Mushrooms, Food Of The Gods

The book is recommended to gain more insight into McKenna’s thinking and the broad set of ideas that one can have about psychedelics. But I would urge the reader to stay critical and take from the book what is useful. Many things are bad, even terrible, about our current society. But thinking back to a time where childbirth was the norm, a small infection meant death, and where war with the next tribe or city over was a given, doesn’t seem to be the answer. Interesting musings and as good an intro to McKenna’s writings as any.

Yet maybe the experience shouldn’t be brushed aside so quickly. Roland Griffiths of John Hopkins University began the first modern scientific studies on psilocybin in 1999. (Psilocybin is the active ingredient of the so-called “magic mushrooms.”) These studies began researching the effects of a psychedelic experience for people who are depressed, addicted to cigarettes or dying of cancer. And the lead researcher was shocked because in questionnaires collected a month after the studies, more than two-thirds of patients rate their psychedelic journey as one of the most important experiences of their life.
